Stroke Fatigue

I’ve been writing blog entries every week since November first. The only problem is none of them are up to my lofty standards. That is to say I am way too critical of my own work. That is to say I am so darn hard on myself it’s a wonder I haven’t had a brain stroke by now.

Oh, wait!

I’ve got a mountain of things to tell you. I think of at least a dozen just before I go to bed. I think of great stories and fantastically funny phrases, twists and turns. Now this is all very convenient because the bed’s upstairs and my computer’s downstairs where I can’t get to it.

Some would call these symptoms of writer’s block. Endemic to all creative personalities.

Me, I’m convinced it’s because of Stroke Tom. Or my feet hurt. Or I’ve got to rest up for the Nebraska/Texas Game on Saturday. No, that’s over and one second too long for my taste.

“I’m not a slacker! I just don’t feel like it right now.” That’s what I told Diane this morning.

She interrupted my computer game to give me one of those “if things don’t change around here…” speeches. She says she’s not psychic, but her voice changes and you know, instinctively, she’s channeling extremely important information.

She doesn’t do it often, but when she does, I listen.

As I did three months ago. I was avoiding a friend’s calls. Actually, I was avoiding everybody’s calls. At the time I was struggling with Stroke Fatigue.

Now, Stroke Fatigue is no joke. When it hits you, you’re toast. I’d work at the computer maybe two hours and I was through. If I swam that day I didn’t do anything else. I’d just crawl into my chair and watch TV until my brains started to leak out my ears…. No, that was one the stupid shows I watched.

Stroke Fatigue is devastating. Doc Lynn said to pace myself, says it’s the number one complaint among stroke survivors. He said I had to pace myself because if I did too much my brain would turn into malt-o-meal* and I’d be down for three or four days. He said there was nothing I could do. That’s your life now big fella.

Well, Diane and her channeling voice came to my rescue. She let me know I’d better take the call from Larry. That she was NOT my personal assistant…you know the drill.

Larry also suffers from diabetes and he’d found something that lowered his blood sugar 400 points in three months. It also gave him a found wealth of new found energy.

And all you had to do was buy a machine and drink the elixir it made.

I won’t bore you with my objections; they were mostly about money. You know hundreds of thousands to stay alive and functioning, but not one red cent for healing and prevention. Kind of like my not wanting to call an ambulance because it was too expensive.

Fortunately, I got the machine and WOW! What a difference that amazing elixir has made in my life.

Today, I don’t get nearly as fatigued. It’s like night and day.

I’m at my desk most of the day. I come home from swimming and paint or write, straight away. Diane says, I have more energy now than before my brain stroke.

Stroke Fatigue still raises his ugly head, but now I have a counter measure. When I feel a little puny I sit in a chair and drink a glass of my magic elixir. In about twenty minutes I’m up and going…usually. Sometimes I push too hard for too long, but even those times are nothing like before.
